For parents · how the evaluation works
The coach follows a standard, not a mood.
The fair question about any AI-assisted evaluation is simple: does it say the same thing on Tuesday that it said on Monday? Four things keep the calibration steady, and your student can see all four while they work.
01
The criteria are written down before the answer is read
Each phase of a thinking session carries the published AP criteria for that point, word for word. Your student can open it beside their own writing, before and after they submit. The coach is told to apply that text and nothing else, so a low mark always points at a criterion they can read for themselves.
02
The scale never changes
Marks come from one fixed five-point band, and each band maps to one fixed label. There is no separate scale for an easy day and a hard day.
| Level | Label | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | Not yet | Blank or off-task. |
| 1 | Not yet | Misses the key criteria for this point. |
| 2 | Approaching | Partly meets the criteria. |
| 3 | On track | Meets the criteria. |
| 4 | Strong | Meets the criteria with depth. |
03
Every response has the same four parts
Feedback is not free-form commentary. It is checked against a fixed shape before it reaches your student, and anything that does not fit that shape is rejected rather than shown.
- One rubric verdict and one calibration level from 0 to 4
- One strength tied to a phrase the student actually wrote
- One concrete revision to make next
- Two or three guiding questions
One thing is deliberately missing from that list: a finished paragraph. The coach never writes the essay. At most it shows how a stronger version might open, in a single sentence.
04
Nothing is regenerated behind your back
Each draft check is stored with the exact answer, the mark, and the feedback it received. Reopening an old session shows the original words, not a fresh opinion produced on the spot. If a mark ever looks wrong to you, there is a record to point at.
